Gladly I have some responses from the brief which I mailed out! In the brief I requested the participants give a short statement about themselves and their much liked design style along with their favourite pastel colour, to gain an understanding about them as designers, each of which attaching a pdf of their designs.

Butterfly Project || Photographed final products

Today in the photography studio I wanted to photograph majority of my final printed products. The butterfly project was a brief which enabled me to experiment with different photographic editing processes, these designs are aimed at an audience who appreciate pattern design and photography. My aim for photographing the printed items was to have a lot of white space, allowing the paper prints to stand out from the minimal background. 

Here I wanted to capture the prints working as a series as well as single prints. Overall I'm happy with how the final photographs turned out however slight editing alterations need to be made to adjust lighting tweaks.

Context:

Produce branding and identity for a third year student's final major project. The student being a fashion designer at Leeds College of Art, who requested modern and minimalistic designs which reflect her as a designer. 

Brief or Tasks:

- Consider all aspects of design which may include business cards, a look book showcasing her designs , labels for inside the garments, clothing tags and coat hanger additions. 
- Think about creating a typeface to develop a logo from, e.g. initials - LR - Laura Richardson. 
- Perhaps think of prop designs for final exhibition space. 

Preparation/Research suggestions:

- Ideas to suit her collection of clothing, designing and manufacturing. 
- Designers style of work is minimalistic, modern, contemporary and clean cut.
- Take into account when designing something which reflects her ethos as a fashion designer and her collection of clothing. 

Evidence – for this project students should submit:

- Ongoing documentation on blog

- Research (primary and secondary)

- Design sheets

- Summative and formative feedback from peers/ collaborator 

- Initial and final designs 

- Branding and identity of the designer and the collective pieces.
- A logo, business cards, look book, labels for inside the garments, clothing tags, coat hanger additions.

Extended practice || Photographing work || Inspiration

Throughout my practice over the past three years I haven't taken professional looking photographs of any of my design work, this is something I really want to focus on for my portfolio so that my designs are well executed and presented. Below are some of the image stylists, installation artists and photographers I pay close attention to, most have a minimalist style which lets the work speak for its self by having white space and simple product placement.

I believe this kind of photographic set up would work best for my Albino Boutique brief, the use of pastel colours and an array of similar products, all of which colour are co-ordinated would be well suited for my project.

Another collection of photographs shot by Golemac displaying fabric scarfs arranged in pattern and colour order. This style of shoot would be perfect for my Pink Ink brief, along with any other textile fabrics I need to photograph.

Cereal is an independent food and travel journal published quarterly featuring an extremely clean art direction, minimalistic yet stunning photography as well as original content which is much appreciated at a time when we are overwhelmed with the pace of information.

Based in Bristol, UK, the magazine features contributors that have a strong presence in the editorial world such as interiors photographer Line Klein and lifestyle writer Nick Baines. 

Photographing publications and magazines which display photography would be great capture like this, briefs such as Pink Ink, Albino Boutique, Visual Memories.

Exhibiton of paris || Book binding

Kate and I practiced binding the book together using white cotton and a needle, this is a process i hadn't tried before and was quite keen to learn new skill in binding so Kate showed me the process.

Kate and I decided to experiment with some prating techniques and processes to develop a collation of work which we would be happy with. Here is the process in which we created the book cover:

We tested different stock colours and foils to show change in design.

Kate and I organised the layout for the booklet and test printed it to see if the paper sizing was correct for the book cover we aimed to design.

We were happy with the outcome, as the book came out and functioned just as we wanted it.
