Exhibition of Paris || Content for publication and blog

Today Kate and I planned out elements of the photography publication in terms of image size, layout and fonts we wanted to display in the book.

Using the Levitations and Auras book as a main source of layout inspiration, we decided to produce a small book which was predominately image based, below are the image sizes we chose, small, medium and large.

Photograph sizes - Mini book

25x30mm
45x60mm
60x90mm

Below is a gif displaying my photographic work from paris which will be used in one half of the book.

Exhibition of Paris || Book idea

Found a small photography book in the library and showed Kate the layout and book cover, this was a design idea we though would be perfect for out mini book of photographs from paris.

Exhibition of Paris || Research || Trip to Paris

The aim was to collect imagery which displayed architecture, signage and the culture of paris. These are a few of the photographs I took on the trip, I think these would be suitable for the publication.

Exhibition of paris || Research

"Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. It is situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. Within its administrative limits (the 20 arrondissements), the city had 2,234,105 inhabitants in 2009 while its metropolitan area is one of the largest population centres in Europe with more than 12 million inhabitants."

The plan for the research trip is to collect and document as much photographic imagery as possible.

Textile Federation || Final design

Two headed beetle - Scarf design

After practicing with the prism kaleidoscope app and editing in photoshop, I came up with a design which I believed to resemble themes of entomology with hints of inspiration from Damien Hirst. I produced this digital design with the aim of seeing it being produced into a textile garment and being sold in Oxford Street Topshop. Textile Federation the fashion label are known for their abstract apparel prints, I wanted to design something which was representative of them as well as adding my personal style to the print.

Textile Federation || Prism app photographs

To get this photographic pattern effect I used the camera app to hover over images of insects which included butterflies, beetles, dragonflies and many more. Each of these images depict elements of entomology, kaleidoscopic patterns and mirror symmetry. The aim was to produce something quick and easy to design for a scarf print, a photographic tile repeat pattern was my option.

Examples of some of the photographs I took:

Prism Scope Kaleidoscope - Camera

I produced this Gif in photoshop after using the application to take photographs of insects from 'The Hand of Nature' book which displays butterflies, beetles and dragonflies. I produced the moving image to show exactly how the app works.

Textile Federation || Entomology research

Entomology |ˌentəˈmäləjē|
nounthe branch of zoology concerned with the study of insects.
To gain an insight into the study of insects I decided to look at a few artists who concentrate on the concept of insects, the likes of Damien Hirst who has produced many works of art with the theme of entomology.
