Context:


- Develop a project focussing on the distinct nature and reflective appearance of butterflies. 
- With the use of macro photography collect a series of images to design from. 
- The aim is to focus on the likeness of the butterfly and produce a range of prints and products which involves pattern design. 
- Design themes will include focusing on close up detail of butterflies to create obscure patterns with aspects of geometry. 


Brief or Tasks:
  
- Produce a series of butterfly prints focusing on mirror imaging.
- Design prints which would be suitably used for stationary (gift wrap sample book)
- Produce a publications which functions and resembles a butterfly (a publication with reflective pages in the shape of a butterfly, bind directly down the middle, content include pattern design and experimental processes). 
- Consider the publication to resemble a 3D butterfly, pages much like wings through the use of processes such as laser cutting to create layers in the book. 
- Design for a target audience of 18-25 year olds, urban outfitters and asos market. 
  
Preparation/Research suggestions:


- Collect photographic research of butterflies. (primary and secondary)
- Investigate processing methods and how I can incorporate these into my designs, such as laser cutting and embossing. 
- Damien Hirst's butterfly art work.
- Collect examples of 3D publications.


Evidence – for this project students should submit:


- Ongoing documentation on blog
- Research (primary and secondary)
- Design sheets
- Summative and formative feedback from peers
- Initial and final designs 
- Develop Design and inspiration boards to help produce products
- Butterfly photographs and illustrations
- A range of prints and products
- Processing experiments and final designs
- Ongoing photographic documentation of the project
- Butterfly pattern design and butterfly publication
